The Japan Rail Pass is a rail pass that is available to visitors on a tourist visa.
It allows unlimited travel on the bullet train and on the JR railways.
There is an agreement with bus lines and the Miyajima ferry.
What is Japan Rail Pass?
The Japan Rail Pass is the easiest, most efficient and practical way to get to know Japan.
You can travel throughout Japan by purchasing the 07, 14 and 21-day rail pass.
There is the common category and luxury for those who want more comfort.
See below a new requirement that will be applied from the date of June 1, 2017.
・ Passengers who have a “Temporary Visitor” visa are eligible to purchase the Japan Rail Pass.
・ Adults and children have different prices.
・ Children from 6 to 11 years old use child rate.
Children up to 5 years old travel on their laps with their parents.
How to purchase
The Japan Rail Pass must be purchased before arriving in Japan.
A voucher (Exchange Order) will be issued and this voucher must be exchanged in Japan for the rail pass.
The acquisition is made by presenting the copy of the Japanese visa and the copy of the passport.
After the purchase is made, the voucher is valid for 90 days.
Refunds can be requested up to 01 year from the date of travel and a 15% fee will be charged.
Presentation of the voucher will be required for refund.
There is no refund in case of loss or theft or after the voucher exchange.
How to switch
The voucher (Exchange Order) must be exchanged in Japan, at one of the Japan Rail Pass exchange points located in the main cities and stations in Japan.
To make the exchange, the passport must be presented.
After the exchange, the pass is valid for 30 days to start using.
